From Designer to Marketer: Changing Careers is Always an Option!

“Life is made of changes and brave decisions. When I decided to change my career from designer to marketer, I was not only aware of the challenges I would face, but also filled with hope for the opportunities this transition could bring.”

Not all careers follow a linear trajectory, and this became quite clear to me while interacting with various professionals in the digital world throughout this process. Each one with their own story, full of challenges, surprising turns, and great success, added a bit of courage to this path of change.

After six years working as a designer, my proximity to the digital marketing department, which daily intervenes in various businesses, provided me with a privileged view of the growth, difficulties, evolution, and challenges faced by clients in the digital universe. This intense interaction allowed me not only to observe but also to understand the dynamics and strategies applied, as well as the problems that arise and the innovative solutions implemented to drive our clients' success. This process sparked my interest, and it was at that moment that my curiosity to deepen my knowledge in the field emerged.

I started by following popular figures like Gary Vee and Seth Godin, reading articles, attending webinars, talking to professionals in the field, and participating in workshops related to marketing. I realized that many design concepts directly apply to digital marketing, such as the importance of aesthetics, user experience, and performance design. With that said, I needed to acquire new skills to begin what I so deeply wanted and identified with, the world of digital marketing.

I then decided to enroll in the Digital Acceleration Program by Roberto Cortez and Rebellion by Rui Patarrana. These programs were a turning point in my journey, providing me with a comprehensive view of digital marketing and a valuable network of contacts. Courses in digital marketing, social media management, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and e-commerce became part of my daily routine and contributed to my rapid evolution in this field. They not only gave me theoretical knowledge but also the confidence to apply this knowledge in practice.

Months later, I felt that I was ready, and the decision to switch departments was officially communicated. The ideals were aligned, and the synergy between teams allowed for a smooth transition. One of the greatest lessons I learned during this process was the importance of continuous learning and adaptation. In the digital world, changes are constant, and the ability to learn and adapt quickly is crucial. The transition from designer to marketer taught me to value resilience and flexibility.

Therefore, if you are considering a career change, remember that it is never too late to follow your true passion. Investing in yourself, exploring new areas, and being open to new opportunities can lead you to unexpected and rewarding paths. My journey from designer to marketer was challenging but extremely rewarding, and at this moment, I find myself happy and grateful to have found the perfect space to grow and reinvent myself.
